White power... everywhere... again

Just another Friday night spent sanding drywall. Least favorite house related task ever.

If Google Streetviews would drive by now we would definitely be alot less ashamed. Granted I think we may have missed them :o\ damn.

It sure beats what it was:

Master Bedroom update

This room hasn't been mentioned for a while in this blog.. mainly because progress on it ground to a halt while we built/renovated 2 bathrooms. The master bedroom served as a handy place to store building material and work on construction while we redid the upstairs bathroom, but now that the bathroom is done it is time that this room finally gets finished. Having to spend 2 nights in this room (with the old clawfoot tub in the corner of it!) while a friend visited really drove this point home.

While renovating/building the bathrooms we were reminded how much easier drywall is than skim coating. While we hate to waste the time we spent trying to skim coat this room... the promise of perfect walls for the price of a couple days of drywalling work is pretty tempting. (A word of advice to any other would be home renovators... learn to plaster/drywall. This will save you scads of $$ and with practice it isn't that hard.)

Here is the bedroom while it was a workshop:

Since we decided to do drywall in this room we figured it would be a good idea to bash down the non-insulated external wall and add some insulation to it. Here is the progress today:

Tomorrow we will be heading to "the depot" bright and early to buy scads of quarter/half inch drywall. *yay* At least the DIY delivery option is pretty cheap ($20 van rental :D )

Porch progress

The porch is progressing and looking really really good. We're rapidly losing our position as "ugliest" house on street. Here are some small pictures of the progress... bigger pics will come when it's done. ;o) .

Upstairs bathroom finally done

We stopped counting days when the bathroom started to function (and because the amount of time trim/finishing stuff takes is way to depressing to think about) but now it is finally pretty much done (aside from a flange we ordered online and other tiny things but yee... lets call it done). Here are some pics.

When you have overnight guests coming...

Do not rip out carpet. Clean your house. Relax and prepare to be a good host.

After redoing the bathroom the carpet on our stairs/landing was pretty much toast (even more toast than when we moved in)

So we ripped it off today. The landing revealed some nice hardwood. The stairs... well it made our entryway resemble the gates to hell...

So we went to home depot and picked up 5 cheap 6'x28" runners and some heavy duty staples for about $150. After 1.5 hours of work we now have the following (trinity approved) stairs:

This was a crazy thing to do and now we still have to clean the house after all the renos... but damn it looks good (at least until we get around to fixing up the stairs properly).

Upstairs bathroom: day 23

The end is in sight now. We just need to install the door, fill/paint the trim and a variety of other small tasks.

And to think 21 days ago we were looking at this:

never mind that we look a bit like sleep deprived zombies and have done nothing but this bathroom for the past 23 days... *le sigh*
